What is Lesedi Film Center?
Lesedi Film Center is a comprehensive learning center for high school aged students (13-19) to learn the skill, discipline and professionalism of film production through a series of after-school workshops. Lesedi is a place where students can put their creative ideas into practice. By dissecting the elements of film into respective workshops, i.e. scriptwriting, directing, documentary filmmaking etc., Lesedi equips its students with the necessary tools to integrate their creative ideas with strong technical expertise to help them competently articulate their points of view.
History
Lesedi opened its doors in the summer of 2007 offering filmmaking workshops in scriptwriting, directing and acting on east Tremont Ave. in Bronx, NY. In early 2008, Lesedi joined the Kips Bay Boys and Girls Club offering a documentary filmmaking workshop. In 2009, Lesedi partnered with Dixon Place Theatre, offering Video Art/Dance Choreography exchange workshop at Tompkins Square Middle School.
On the horizon, Lesedi plans to continue operating at our mainstay locations, as well as joining forces with the East Harlem Tutorial Program for a documentary filmmaking collaborative workshop.
Lesedi Film Center is currently under the direction of co-founder Allison Caviness.
